Solskjaer closing in on Man United job
Since taking charge at Old Trafford, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has done a superb job.
Manchester United have lost just once in the Premier League since OGS took over back in December.
United are also just two points off a Champions League place despite the fact they looked extremely unlikely to make the top four when Mourinho left.
As a result, the Telegraph has on Monday reported that Solskjaer could be United’s permanent manager as early as this week.
Van Gaal on Solskjaer & Mourinho
Ex-Man United boss Louis Van Gaal has, this week, been speaking out about both of his predecessors.
In a somewhat bizarre claim, Van Gaal claims that both Jose Mourinho and Solskjaer employed park the bus tactics while managing United:
“The coach after me [Mourinho] changed to park-the-bus tactics and played on the counter. Now there is another coach who parks the bus and plays on the counter.
“The main difference between Mourinho and Solskjaer is that Solskjaer is winning.”As quoted by BBC Sport.
While it is quite obvious Solskjaer does deploy a counter-attacking style of play, utilising the pace of the likes of Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard, to suggest he ‘parks the bus’ is rather strange.
Mourinho would deploy a much more negative style of play than OGS that saw players such as Rashford and Martial tracking back and doing far too much defensive work.
Solskjaer, on the other hand, gives United’s top stars like Paul Pogba, the freedom they crave and it has yielded excellent results.
