Bad news for Chelsea? Real Madrid ‘have made the decision’ to sell Gareth Bale this summer – AS

As per a report from Spanish outlet AS, Real Madrid have decided to part ways with Gareth Bale at the end of the season.

Up-and-down Real stint

Bale, 29, has been on the books of soon-to-be dethroned European champions Real since the summer of 2013.

However, as has been widely-covered in the media, the Welshman’s time at the Bernabeu has proven far from straightforward.

Despite having played in a key role in his side’s 4 Champions League triumphs since his arrival in the Spanish capital, showcasing his world-class abilities with countless stunning goals and assists, the story of Bale’s career has long-been the explosive wide-man’s injury troubles.

The former Tottenham man has managed over 30 La Liga starts just once over the course of his 6 years with Real.

The 2016/17 and 2017/18 seasons combined, meanwhile, saw Bale start in less than half of Los Blancos’ league outings, after struggling with a number of persistent calf and ankle problems.

Bale’s dip in form

And the current campaign has seen Bale once again in and out of the starting XI in Madrid.

However, significantly, even when fit, the Welshman’s performances have often left a lot to be desired.

In fact, so poor was Bale during Real’s 1-0 Clasico defeat to Barcelona at the beginning of the month, that the attacker was substituted off to a deafening chorus of boos on the part of the Bernabeu faithful.

‘Not in their plans’

And, as per the aforementioned report from AS this evening, Bale’s continued fitness struggles, coupled with his patchy form, have seen the Merengues’ board come to the definitive decision to sell the club’s most-expensive ever signing this summer:

‘Real Madrid want to sell Gareth Bale at the end of the season and his performance between now and the end of May does not matter. After six years at Madrid, Real Madrid and Zidane have decided that the Welsh attacker is not in their plans moving forward.’

Bale’s sale is reportedly set to fund Zinedine Zidane’s pursuit of a new ‘Galactico’ signing.

AS’ report, meanwhile, comes just hours after Marca claimed that Eden Hazard remains ‘in pole position’ to make the move to the Bernabeu at the end of the campaign.

The Belgian has seemingly been identified as the logical replacement for Bale in the Spanish capital.
